Flexibility

A key to surviving in today's world and again demonstrated at our latest night. Since Mona was stuck in Vancouver due to the excess of traffic and small size of the BC Ferries boats, the group decided to change the finals. Most of the night was for fun, luckily, as Meg didn't feel up to par.

On the tournament side, Lori pulled her groin playing against the team of Lara & Mike part way through their match. They couldn't regain enough points to pull out a win, so Lara & Mike are moved onto the winners round 2 side. Mike, please take care of Lori for us and mend her back to health!

The rest of the tournament will be played on another day, still to be announced, where Megan & Keith will play Mona & Tom for their first round.

Look for the next posting to inform everyone of the next date. At least it wasn't called because of rain!

Last day of Round Robin

The last Thursday of round robin play finished with a 3-way tie for 1st place on games won / lost -- a close and entertaining night! But in the end it did not matter to the rankings. The rankings and playoff schedule are set and every one gets 3 games.

A Pool:
1 - Lara & Mike
4 - Lori & Mike

B Pool:
2 - Megan & Keith
3 - Mona & Tom

Let's get there early so we don't run out of daylight for the finals! One caveat is Mona will be coming back from Vancouver for work that day and hopefully catching the 4pm boat. By catching a later ferry, we'll have to discuss what to do at that time.

Good luck to all teams! I'm sure it's safe to say that we all had a good session with a good group of people. I would like to suggest that we organize something similar next summer. Ideas are already flowing around about new formats -- "King of the Co-ed" or only hitting at significant others.

Back to Thursday

Due to attendance, or lack there of for Wednesday, this week is back to Thursday, August 21st. We have confirmed all teams but a replacement for Lara & Mike . This is the final week before the season playoffs and one of the last weekends of the summer 2003!

After this week, all the points will be tallied and the top teams paid out next week with half of the prizing (Mona doesn't like me using "prizing" since its not a real word but I'm such a rebel). Our illustrious accountant, Keith, will bring cash in divisible amounts to be Olympically given to the teams proudly standing on the pedestals. Sorry no medals this year -- government cutbacks.

Points didn't matter

Play day yesterday -- the day where the teams were made up and the points didn't matter. The girls played with all the boys which made for interesting games. For the first time ever, Mike and Lara played on opposite sides of the court (quiet ride home in the Westfalia?). "Come on, hit the ball!" "You dick!" "He's a pain to play against." Some of the quotes from the husband and wife team that kept the rest of us entertained.

For mysterious reasons, teams were more competitive when playing against a significant other. Hmmm. That amazing motivation for bragging rights. And yes, Lara & Tom beat the team of Mike & Mona. (It tastes so much better when it's published.)

Next week is on Wednesday night. Everyone is confirmed except for Lori, Mike & Megan.

Back from NYC

Being back from NYC is a bit of a culture shock for Mona & I. The energy is different and the number of people. There are more people on the Manhattan island than in the entire BC province! But back to vball.

Thanks to Mike "Big Mac" Waller and Craig "Crazy" Peterson for substituting for Mona & Tom. Even though the boys had a poor performance the first week -- that $5 incentive wasn't enough -- they pulled out a win over Mike & Lara in the 2nd week.

This Thursday (August 14) may turn out to be a play-day where the points don't matter. Lori & Mike are travelling to California for a few days for a house party of 250-people! And Megan is up in the big town of Lake Cowichan where there are a total of 250 people.

Keith did some auditing of the accounting and found he was short $20. A pending inquiry is before the audit committee as Keith suspects Tom hasn't paid. Tom is preparing to appeal the decision.

Keith tells me this was the outcome from the last two weeks:
Lara & Mike - 1st both times
Megan & Keith - 2nd both times
Craig & Mike - 3rd both times
Lori & Mike - 4th both times
