Playoff Schedule

We agreed to finish this summer off on August 28th -- FINALS!!! Our last night of round robins will be August 21st where the first half will be tallied up and the winners paid out! The final night's schedule is below and the rankings are based on play in previous round robins.

A picture speaks a thousand words but in case that doesn't help, below is a verbal description. Did I get this right? I didn't take into account "Keith Logic" so...

A) 1st vs 4th
B) 2nd vs 3rd
C) Winner of A vs Winner of B
D) Loser of A vs Loser of B
E) Winner of C vs Winner of D (back door for 1st/2nd)
F) Loser of D vs Loser of C (for 3rd/4th)

Suck it up!

Week 3!

Again this week Dave Nelson sub'd in. This time for Tom as he was sick (what a wimp -- suck it up!). Dave & Mona pulled out a well fought 2nd place finish, keeping Keith & Megan's run of points at bay for a 25-22 win. Lara & Mike, using their heavy leather ball (strategic or for exercise, you be the judge), beat out the other teams this week but with a lot of grunting from Mike.

The next two weeks, Mike Waller and Craig Peterson will be standing in for Mona & Tom. The boys from Lake Cowichan. Someone needs to remind Craig that there is no jump serving (actually what am I saying?!?).

Standings, Week 3:
Mike & Lara - 3 points
Mona & Tom - 2 points
Megan & Keith - 1 point
Mike & Lori - bagel

Buying a new volleyball

Looking at buying a new volleyball, Mike? Keith, do you want to get a proper beach ball from those who sponsor the FIVB? Have a look at what Mikasa has to offer. I like the Beach Champ -- it's made with "exclusive high-grade Micro Cell composite material". Huh?

Have an XBox? Want to play volleyball on the XBox when its rainy outside or you're already sun burnt from the day before? Well, look no further, as Xbox has released Xtreme Volleyball.

Keith Accounting

More of Keith's fancy accounting techniques have come out today (I think they call it the 3 shell game on the street). Seems Mikey is in the free and clear -- we'll call off our Italian friend, Guido, so he doesn't break anyone's legs.

On another note, Tom & Mona will be on holidays from July 26th to August 9th and will need an excellent team to sub for them for 2 Thursdays. Any Pro beach players in town? Shon Ryan and Mike Toakley are not available. Perhaps, Shon Boulding or Radko & Nicole.

And a question to you all... when were we proposing this to end? I'm assuming sometime near the end of August or beginning of September. Are there times that are bad for anyone?

Week 2!

This week Dave Nelson sub'd for Mikey (Merryweather). Lori & Dave played some exhausting, water-needed rallys and served untouchable aces to keep all their games close. On the side lines, Mikey was entertained by Riley (or entertainment for?), as Lori's men were cheering her on. And we saw one of Riley's hidden talents -- chugging water like there's no tomorrow!

Hint for Mikey: more water, less Cheerios.
Hint for Mona: bring more water next week.

Both Megan & Keith (known as the head-hunter) and Mona & Tom were defeated in 2 point games against Lara & Mike. After playing Mona & Tom for a 31-29 win, Mike wondered if we should have a cap. A suggestion of capping at 50 was met with a quiet response -- we really want to suffer on those long ones! But the suggestion of playing with the small volleyball replica for the finals raised some eyebrows of interest.

Seems our accountant, Keith, is doing some fancy shifting of funds, and now Tom, Megan and Mikey are now owing. Mikey is appealing the decision but Keith has been overheard saying, "Mikey, I can't break my accountant ethics, I signed an oath. After working for Enron, I've learned my lesson."

Standings, Week 2:
Mike & Lara - 3 points (total 6)
Megan & Keith - 2 points (total 4)
Mona & Tom - 1 point (total 1)
Mike & Lori - bagel (total 1)

As of last night, we have a few less delinquent players! I gave my last $20 to Keith and being the gentleman I am, I'm going to put it towards Mona's bill. Awwh, how sweet.

Still Overly-Delinquent Players:
Tom
Megan

Maybe Megan is thinking she's going to win the grand prize so no need to put her money in. Remember Meg, you're with Keith... ;) I shouldn't poke fun, I haven't been doing well the last few weeks!

Victoria Austrailia

Thanks Keith for letting me know the Beach Volleyball Victoria link (in the Links section on the right) was actually for Victoria, Austrailia! That'll teach me for doing blind searches on Google without reviewing. ;)

For interest's sake, I've left the Auzi link there. And to continue to make this website a great resource for everyone, please provide comments or suggestions. If they're negative, deliver those ones to Mona in Customer Support!! [ha ha]

First Week!

Eight friends and four teams played yesterday in the hot sun! And no dried fruit on the premise, just carrots this time.

Lara & Mike pulled out 3 wins and 0 loses even with some parental distractions keeping them entertained. It was great to see Michelle and Kalen out having fun at the park and giving Keith support. Megan could only do so much to keep them at 2 wins yesterday. That left Mike & Lori beating Mona & Tom in the deciding game for 3rd with a score of 25-23 using the fluffy ball. Not that it made a difference. ;)

This Weeks' Standings:
Mike & Lara - 3 points
Megan & Keith - 2 points
Mike & Lori - 1 point
Mona & Tom - bagel

Delinquent players ($20):
Tom & Mona
Megan
Mike M
(Keith being the accountant pays double!)

The new format as discussed:
Percentage of points over days played and includes points made from subs. So if you miss a week and don't have a sub, you're not penalized. We'll keep to the 50% split for league and final night winnings. The points you make up during the next few weeks will also set the layout for the final playoff day(s). And Keith wants to do double round robin so he has access to the back door. Giddy-up!

Warm-up Day!

A few are getting together Thursday, July 3rd @ Beckwith Park for some fun!

Weather looks great!

An easy warm-up for Sunday's tourny. Not all will be attending but we'll have enough for a few good matches.

Wednesday, July 02, 2003

We have confirmed teams, price, prizing, and equipment. The place is still up in the air. The entrance fee is $40 per team.

Prizing:
All of the entrance fees will go back to the best performing teams. Half for the league portion and half for the final night of playoffs. We'll do a $60/$30/$10 split for 1st, 2nd and 3rd for both portions.

Beer and drinks will be welcome and your personal responsibility -- we accept your drinking habit.

Our night of choice is Thursday.
